SIG Workshops:

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Chair: Asif Khan. The group promotes entrepreneurship as a core engineering competence. It supports the integration of innovation, opportunity recognition, risk management, and value creation into engineering curricula, helping prepare future engineers to address complex challenges and create societal and economic impact.

ETHICS

Co-Chairs: Diana Martin and Mircea Tobosaru. The group aims to build a global community of friends in engineering ethics education. The projects address policy, research, and education themes related to the ethical and socio-economic dimensions of engineering. Aims to put forward examples of best practices in the teaching of engineering ethics and support research collaborations on societal themes.

DIGITAL LEARNING

Co-Chairs: Mikko Nurminen and Andrew Garrard. Sharing best practices, supporting educators, developing practical guides, building digital material repositories, and offering expertise on current trends like AI, MOOCs, and remote learning.

• Workshop “From Prompting to Pedagogy: Aligning Generative AI with Meaningful Learning Design“, Monday 7 September, 14:20–15:20, Room C4-155

CAPACITY BUILDING

Co-Chairs: Madeline Polmear and Jennifer Griffiths. Aims to empower the pedagogical development of educators in engineering higher education through building a community of practitioners and researchers in education development.

ATTRACTIVENESS

Co-Chairs: Hanne Deprez and Sofie Craps. Aims to provide a forum open to students, practitioners, researchers, industry, and other interested parties to understand how prospective students perceive the attractiveness of engineering (education) and to recommend ways of improving it.

• Workshop “From Mentoring Practices to Impact: Understanding and Evaluating Mentoring for Belonging and Attractiveness in Engineering” , Tuesday 8 September, 11:30–12:30, Room C4-157

MATHEMATICS

Chair: Deolinda Dias Rasteiro. Primarily focused on finding answers to many questions arising in connection to the challenges of teaching effective courses in mathematics for all engineering students developing their mathematical competencies and skills.

ENGINEERING SKILLS

Co-Chairs: Neil Cooke and Lynn Van den Broeck. Works to review the current state of engineering skills and to identify future trends with a view to inform the engineering education community of these to ensure currency of engineering programmes.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

Co-Chairs: Chika Nweke, Fiona Truscott, Joelyn de Lima. Aims to make SEFI accessible and welcoming; bring the issues associated with the lack of diversity within engineering to the attention of the wider community; amplify practices that foster diversity, equity, and inclusion across engineering education contexts; promote research on diversity, equity and inclusion in engineering education; and create opportunities to share insights and build community

SUSTAINABILITY

Co-Chairs: Valentina Rossi and Sarah Hitt. Investigates the field of sustainability with respect to impact on engineering education, as sustainability principles become an important aspect of the engineering curriculum.

• Workshop, Wednesday 9 September, 12:30–13:30, Room C4-155

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Co-Chairs: John Mitchell and Rola Saad. Focuses on learning about curriculum innovation in engineering education in different educational environments, as well as becoming aware of the interests of students from different countries and those of a dynamic society, university/business interaction.

• Workshop, Wednesday 9 September, 12:30–13:30, Room C4-157

PHYSICS

Chair: Arjan Lock. A network of physics teachers and people who are interested in how to teach and learn physics in engineering education. The group discusses challenges and shares solutions, and every two years, the Physics Teaching in Engineering Education (PTEE) conference is organised.

QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ACCREDITATION

Co-Chairs: Jose Carlos Quadrado and Raja Toqeer. Aims to support and enhance the international accreditation of engineering programmes and the development of engineering educators register through targeted tools and strategies.

ENGINEERING EDUCATION RESEARCH

Co-Chairs: Esther Ventura-Medina and Tinne De Laet. Gathers a European community of engineering education researchers to contribute with research evidence to the advancement of engineering education in Europe and in the world.
