SEFI Bologna Position Paper Bologna 2012

In March 2012, SEFI and BEST joined their forces to publish a Joint Communication on “Engineering Education and the Bologna Process” in view of the 8th Ministreial Conference to be held in Bucharest on 26-27 April. The recommendations made by SEFI and BEST refer to the following topics: “Promoting Interdisciplinarity and Transdisciplinarity”, “Emphasising Engagement” and “Stimulating Entrepreneurship and Innovation“.
In this document (SEFI Position Paper Bologna 2012), SEFI and BEST support the direction in which the Bologna Process is leading engineering education whilst emphasising a series of actions to be encouraged and implemented in European Higher Engineering Education.

2012 European Convention for Engineering Deans: a huge success!
The 4th European Convention for Engineering Deans was organised by the University of Birmingham, CESAER and SEFI, on 29-30 March 2012 on the theme of “Tomorrow’s engineers – for an attractive Europe: Working Together to Build on Europe’s Excellence in Engineering Education and Research”. 75 engineering deans attended the event that was exceptionally well organised by our Prof. Hawwash, University of Birmingham, School of Civil Engineering, and his team. Announcement and Call for Papers:Higher Education in Europe had to face several challenges since the Bologna Declaration was signed in 1999. As an answer to the new situation most of University Curricula have undergone substantial changes, and new Degrees have appeared all over Europe. On the other hand, those changes have promoted a deeper interest on methodology, and particularly on learning oriented education and innovation.
16th SEFI Mathematics Working Group Seminar - Register now

In summer 2012, the 16th SEFI MWG seminar will take place at the University of Salamanca, Spain. The main topic will be the new edition of the group’s curriculum document which will use the concept of mathematical competencies as framework. A preliminary version of the document will be made available on the group’s web site (http://sefi.htw-aalen.de) by September 2011.
News from the European Engineering Deans Council (EEDC)
On March 2nd, 15 Deans in Engineering from European Universities signed the Act of Constitution of the EEDC aisbl at the notary office in Brussels.

WG on Ethics in Engineering Education Meeting: Twin International Meeting
9–11 July, 2012 at the Norcroft Conference Centre, University of Bradford, Bradford, UK.
Members of the proposed European COST network have initiated peace, ethics and sustainability teaching for science and engineering students at their universities. They cooperate within networks such as the International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility and within the Pugwash Movement. Read more…
