The SEFI Francesco Maffioli Award of Excellence for Developing Learning and Teaching in Engineering Education

SEFI members are invited to nominate their outstanding faculty members for the 2026 SEFI Francesco Maffioli Award of Excellence in Developing Learning and Teaching in Engineering Education!

The SEFI Francesco Maffioli Award, established in honour of the late SEFI President Prof. Francesco Maffioli (Politecnico di Milano), recognises individual teachers or teams from SEFI member institutions for their innovative contributions to engineering education. This prestigious award recognises open-minded development of curriculum, learning environments or tools, novel didactics, methods or systems in engineering studies.

Only SEFI institutional members can nominate awardees.

  • The award consists of a formal presentation at the SEFI Annual Conference 2026 in Prague, Czech Republic, and free registration to attend the conference (one person, if a team).
  • The Chair of the 2026 Francesco Maffioli Award is Dr Johanna Naukkarinen, LUT University, SEFI Vice-President.
  • Nominations must be sent to Dr Naukkarinen, johanna.naukkarinen@lut.fi, in copy with SEFI HQ, office@sefi.be.
  • The deadline for submission is 30 April 2026.

The 2025 Francesco Maffioli Award Recipients were University College London (UCL), led by Fiona Truscott (group category) and Tom Børsen, Aalborg University (individual category).
