Greetings !

This is an invitation for you to participate at an Engineering Education Conference at BVB College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET) at Hubli, Karnataka, India, from January 16 to 18, 2014. This college is one of several colleges which has been able to transform itself in an amazing way, catalyzed by IUCEE programs over the past 5 years.  IUCEE, which has been an  active member of IFEES since its founding, will be a co-sponsor of this Conference. An IUCEE-GEDC Chapter has just been formed by several leaders of colleges associated with IUCEE in India. An IUCEE Summit as well as a IUCEE-GEDC Chapter meeting will be convened in parallel with this Conference. We expect about 300 leaders of engineering education to share best practices at this conference. We will also be inviting delegations from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Latin America,  Africa, Kazakhstan, Viet Nam, and any other interested, representing IFEES/GEDC members, who have shown interest in learning from the IUCEE experience.

IPW Regional Conference on Engineering Education 2013

Is the „concept of competence“ in crisis?

Avenues to engineering education

8. Regional Conference on Engineering Education 2013

November 7-9, 2013, at the TECHNOSEUM in Mannheim

The success story of technical education is movingly illustrated and documented at the TECHNOSEUM Mannheim, where this year’s IPW regional conference will be held.

Worldwide, there are efforts to learn from this success story. However, we are constantly challenged by new terminology, new didactic concepts and new educational policies.

Which of these foster learning? What will stand the test and still be used in the future? What can be linked to the Central European tradition of technical education and its high quality standards? More specifically: Is the fixation on promoting competence a suitable pedagogical approach? Might the concept of competence be in crisis itself? Does it stand up to critical scrutiny?

The 8th Regional Conference provides a forum for discussion on relevant questions about the education of engineers and vocational training. Questions arising from the process of change, studies and keynote speeches and „best-practice“-examples will be presented and discussed, e.g.

♦ Fundamental questions concerning Engineering Education ♦ Concepts of competence in technical education ♦ Web 2.0 – new approaches in teaching ♦ Humanity – Technology – Work – World ♦ Bionics – Learning from nature ♦ Innovative concepts in teaching and learning: examples of best practice ♦ Implementation and implications of the UNESCO Engineering Initiative

The theme of bionics draws our attention to an exhibition prepared by TECHNOSEUM – a wonderful opportunity to become aware of how much we can learn from nature.
